If your birthday falls between January 23rd, 2012, and February 9, 2013, and if you are going to be 12, 24, 36, 48, and so on in multiples of 12, there is every chance that this will be an amazing year. You were born in the Year of the Dragon and this is going to be your lucky year.
Unlike the wicked, fire-breathing dragons of Western mythology, China’s celestial dragon symbolizes potent and benevolent power. Dragon years are considered particularly auspicious for new businesses, marriage, and children. And who wouldn’t want to have the attributes of the Dragon? Who wouldn’t want to be seen as vibrant, magnanimous, charismatic, principled, self-sufficient, discriminating, compelling, sentimental, accomplished, noble-hearted, healthy, and prodigiously shrewd? This might explain why, in China, more babies are born in the year of the Dragon than in any other year.
There is work to be done to get ready for your year of good luck. The house must be thoroughly cleaned in order to sweep out any ill fortune of the past and make room for the incoming good luck. Next, all grudges must be dropped and peace and happiness wished for all.
Happy birthday, Dragons, may you enjoy your special year. While you are at it, check back and see if 2000 wasn’t an amazing year, not to mention 1988!
Editor’s Note: Since we celebrated the 10th anniversary of the founding of Civano in 2010, that would make Civano’s birthday also fall within the year of the Dragon. Maybe this will mean for us that we will finally achieve some of the things we have wished for our community — a café, a small special grocery store, a restaurant, other shops within walking distance; a true community spirit where folks eagerly participate in neighborhood programs and activities! What a wish for us!
